About

Angela and family

Introduction

I was born in Sherman, Texas and North Texas has always been my home, with the exception of my time in Austin attending college at The University of Texas. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree, I returned to Dallas to attend law school at Southern Methodist University. I graduated in May 1996 and was licensed in November 1996.

I have been in private practice for the past 11 years. Currently I practice in the areas of criminal defense, in both the County Courts at Law and District Courts (misdemeanor and felony), family, juvenile, Child Protective Services, and civil litigation.

While attending law school, I participated in several internships. I was recognized for valuable service during my internship with Justice Craig Enoch of the Supreme Court of Texas in 1995. Additionally, I interned with both the Grayson County Attorney's Office and Dallas County District Attorney's Office. I gained civil, criminal, family, and juvenile experience through my internship with the Law Office of George Ashford. I also participated in Civil Clinic at SMU School of Law.

Law Practice

Shortly after receiving my law license, I gained employment with the Collin County District Attorney's Office as an Assistant District Attorney (November 1996). I worked in both misdemeanor and felony courts, and became Chief of the Misdemeanor Intake section eight (8) months into my tenure. While in the District Attorney's Office, I worked in every court in Collin County from Justice of the Peace Courts to District Court. I handled criminal cases, civil asset forfeitures, civil bond forfeitures, mental health hearings, juvenile, Child Protective Services (CPS) cases, and appeals. I remained with the District Attorney's Office until December 2000 at which time I left to open my own law practice.

My legal career encompasses well over 100 jury trials and many more trials and contested hearings in front of the Court. My legal experience has included criminal, civil, family, and juvenile law, appeals, mental health hearings, and bankruptcy. I am one of the few attorneys in Collin County that is qualified to represent, and has in fact represented individuals charged with capital murder.

Community

Throughout my adult life I have been involved in community service activities on a variety of levels. During college, I was invited to become a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., which is a national public service organization. This membership has led me to participate in numerous community service projects over the past 20 years. I have served as Chapter Secretary and Parliamentarian as well as numerous committees, and am currently a member of the Collin County Alumnae Chapter.

While in Collin County District Attorney's Office, several of my colleagues ran for judicial positions. My entry into Collin County politics was as a grassroots campaign volunteer. I have worked on numerous campaigns over the years. I was invited to become a member of the Collin County African American Republican Club shortly after the club was formed. I became a member and served in the capacity of Club Secretary for 5 years, and I am currently in my second term as President. I have also served on the Board of Golden Corridor Republican Women for two years, and have been a Delegate to the State Convention and Texas Federation of Republican Women Convention. Additionally, I have further supported the Collin County Republican Party by volunteering for party events such as Lincoln Day and the Balloon Festival.

I am also an active volunteer with McKinney ISD by serving on various school committees/activities at Cockrill Middle School. Additionally, I am a speaker for the Community in Schools (CIS) Program at Ruth Dowell Middle School which seeks to reach at-risk students. I am also an active member of the Holy Family School PTA.

Family & Church

I have always been active in church. We are members of Friendship Baptist Church. I currently serve on the Usher/Greeter Ministry and Women's Ministry. I have served in several positions including: Executive Management Board, Leadership Council, Church Spokesperson, Expansion Committee, VBS Committee, Youth Counselor (teenage girls), Director of the Youth Ushers and Greeters, and President of the Young Adult Ushers.

Most of my time is spent being a devoted wife to my husband James Tucker, and mother to our two children, Erica (12) and Marshall (4).
